Congosto del Ventamillo tunnel
Huesca, Spain
The installation of the EN 54 voice evacuation system in the Congosto del Ventamillo Tunnel has improved road safety, allowing drivers to be alerted and guided in case of emergencies. In addition, the system has reduced risks, enhanced the response capacity in the event of an accident and increased the confidence of users.
More security, better response,
greater peace of mind
Public address and voice evacuation system in tunnels
The voice evacuation system in tunnels works as follows:
Incident detection: The system is connected to sensors and detection systems for fire, smoke, and other incidents. When an emergency is detected, it is automatically activated.
Activation of evacuation messages: Once an emergency is detected, the public address system broadcasts pre-recorded or live evacuation messages. These messages are designed to provide clear and precise instructions to the people in the tunnel.
Evacuation direction: Evacuation messages guide people to the nearest emergency exits, indicating safe routes and avoiding dangerous areas.
Coordination with other systems: The voice evacuation system can be integrated with other safety systems, such as emergency lighting and signage, to ensure an orderly and safe evacuation.
Monitoring and control: Operators can monitor the situation in real time and adjust evacuation messages as needed, providing up-to-date, emergency-specific information.
This comprehensive approach ensures that people can evacuate quickly and safely in the event of an emergency in the tunnel.

Public address system for emergencies in tunnels
For the dissemination of warning and evacuation messages, loudspeaker control boards (ABT-XCTRLINE-4 y ABT-XCTRLINE-2) were implemented, ensuring audio coverage throughout the tunnel. With the support of the audio interface module (ABT-ISLE), an efficient integration with other warning systems was achieved.
Audio power for clear and efficient communication
The power amplifier (SMART-PA2650) provided the necessary amplification to ensure that the public address messages were delivered clearly and powerfully throughout the tunnel. Its 650W per channel capacity allowed long distances to be covered with optimum audio quality.
Supervision and end of line
With the installation of the supervision module, constant monitoring of the loudspeaker lines was ensured. This made it possible to detect possible faults or disconnections in the public address systems, ensuring that the broadcast of emergency messages was always operational.
Centralised management and monitoring
With the implementation of the OPC and SNMP server (YELLOW-SISERSTAND500), the tunnel operators were able to monitor the status of the equipment in real time. This solution made it possible to detect faults and optimise preventive maintenance, reducing downtime.
Secure power supply and energy backup
The power supply of the critical systems was guaranteed by a combination of power supplies (SMART-PS48800 y SMART-PSM48), providing stable and reliable power. In addition, the backup battery (AKU-55-12AFT) ensured continuity of service in case of power outages.
Modular infrastructure
To house all communication and power equipment in an organised manner, a pre-assembled 24U rack was used. This facilitated the installation and maintenance of the devices, ensuring an orderly and accessible operating environment.
