National Museum of Roman Art Mérida

Badajoz, Spain

The National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida is one of the most important archaeological sites in Spain. Located next to the city’s impressive Roman theater, it was designed by architect Rafael Moneo. Since its opening in 1986, the museum has housed a valuable collection of artifacts from ancient Emerita Augusta: sculptures, mosaics, coins, and architectural elements that allow visitors to delve into the life and culture of the Roman Empire.

To enhance visitor safety and comply with current regulations, the museum has incorporated a voice evacuation system certified according to standard EN54. This solution provides clear instructions in the event of an emergency, facilitating an orderly and safe evacuation of the building.

EN54 voice evacuation system for museums

EN54 voice evacuation systems represent an advanced safety solution that meets the requirements of European regulations. They are especially effective in tourist areas where personal protection is a priority.

Automated operation: They can be activated automatically in the event of a detected emergency, reducing response time and streamlining initial security actions.
Easy maintenance and continuous monitoring: They are designed to provide constant monitoring of their status, allowing potential failures to be detected and resolved before they affect their operation.
Increased public confidence: Having a professional, certified system reinforces visitors’ perception of security, improving their overall experience in the space.

Main project solutions

Make sound yours.

All-in-one central system for zone control

In a large and divided heritage site like the Mérida Museum of Roman Art, it’s essential to be able to manage evacuation by sector. The SEVEN-640 system, certified EN54, allows up to four zones to be controlled independently from a single compact unit, ensuring effective and localized intervention.

Clear and targeted communication in case of emergency

Effective evacuation depends largely on the ability to communicate understandable instructions to the public. Using the SEVEN-MIC microphone, capable of broadcasting both live and pre-recorded messages, allows museum staff to communicate precise instructions and reduce the risk of confusion or panic in the event of an emergency.

Functional sound

The system is also used for the museum’s sound system. The MIXPLAY-1 combines multimedia playback functions with the ability to broadcast automatic emergency messages, integrating security into the visitor’s daily experience.

Guarantee of operation in the event of any eventuality

In an emergency, system continuity is critical. The power supply ensures a stable electrical supply to the evacuation system, preventing interruptions and ensuring its operation even during network failures.

Prepared to adapt to future needs

Museums often evolve, reorganize rooms, or expand their tours. The installed system allows for the addition of new areas or devices without having to change the main installation, making it a flexible and future-proof solution.

The installation of the EN54 system at the National Museum of Roman Art was an exercise in technical precision and respect for heritage. We were able to integrate an effective and regulatory-compliant evacuation solution, preserving the essence of the space and ensuring the safety of its visitors.
